9 Benefits of Drinking Green Smoothies
I love making green smoothies. There’s something about drinking a smoothie that has veggies in it that just makes you feel HEALTHY (even if you had a piece of cake for breakfast…it cancels out, right? Right…?) There are tons of benefits to drinking green smoothies regularly, and there are tons of options to customize the smoothies so you’ll never get bored!
For greens you can use spinach, kale, mixed greens, Swiss chard, and more…basically, you guessed it, anything green and leafy!
1. It’s a quick and easy way to get your daily dose of veggies
Sometimes when I’m making my meals, I’m in a hurry. Sometimes dinner doesn’t consist of a well balanced meal. I like to make sure that I’m able to get enough vitamins and nutrients into my diet and drinking a smoothie is a great way to do that. If you’re not a fan of most kinds of vegetables this is also a great way to sneak them into your diet. What better way to get spinach in your diet than drinking it in a smoothie that just tastes like strawberries and bananas?
2. They’re healthier than vegetable juices
Vegetable juice cleanses are all the rage, but in reality, vegetable smoothies are much healthier for you. When you juice a fruit or veggie you take away all of the fiber that it is in it, but when you blend it up you keep all the fiber in. That means that your body is getting even more vitamins and nutrients and things that it can use! Keep the skin on things like apples and blend it on up to make sure that you’re getting the most out of all your ingredients.
3. They’ll make you more…regular ?
No one likes to talk about poop. Well, maybe that isn’t true. But going number 2 is actually a really important part of living a healthy lifestyle. I mentioned that blending fruits and veggies instead of juicing them gives your body a lot of fiber…that means that your bowel movements will be a lot more regular and it will be a lot easier to go. It may be a slightly unsavory side of green smoothies, but it will help keep your body happy and everything flowing smoothly!
4. They’re low in calories (Which leads to weight loss!!)
I don’t put any yogurt or milk in my smoothies (although you totally can if that is what you prefer!) and because of that, my smoothies are primarily water and fiber. That means they’re not a lot of calories, just a LOT of nutrients. Because of this, a lot of people who drink green smoothies regularly do experience some weight loss.
5. They’re cheap
Sure, you can go to Jamba Juice and get a fancy green smoothie that will make you feel healthy…BUT you can also just make them at home! If you have a blender and some fruits and veggies…you’re one step away from having a delicious green smoothie! Buy produce that is in season to insure that you’re not overpaying for it and try to buy things locally grown. Doing those will help the environment AND your wallet.
6. Healthy hair, skin, and nails
This is one that I really noticed personally. The more that I drank green smoothies the more that I realized my skin was clearing up, my hair was shiny, smooth, and growing quickly, and my nails were stronger than ever. All those nutrients in green smoothies do wonders for your body. A lot of people report that their skin is “glowing” after they’ve had a diet regularly consisting of green smoothies.
7. They will give you more energy
With a mix of fruits and vegetables there is a very balanced source of sugar. This will not cause you to drink it crash like what often happens when you drink something sugary and artificial, like a milkshake. It’s a healthy rush of sugar and one that will be a bit more balanced so that your blood will not experience a sugar “spike” as with some kinds of sugar.
8. They’re easy for on the go
You can make a smoothie the night before and store it in your fridge. They’re easy to dump into plastic tumblers and bring with you to work, class, or wherever you’re off to for the day.

Because you can customize them the way you like, you can make sure that they taste great. What fruits do you like? You can add strawberries, apples, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, pineapple, grapes, mango, peaches…and anything else you like! Mix and match different combinations or look them up online! There are tons of recipes to try and you will never run out of options.
